Thomas More International Days, 11-14 March 2014

We would like to invite you to our International Days taking place  from 11 to 14 March 2014!

The seven campuses of Thomas More are joining forces in creating an international atmosphere for all our students and personnel for the 10th edition of the International Days.

We are pleased to invite lecturers and staff members from our partner institutes to our university college in the framework of the Erasmus teacher exchange/staff training programme. We strongly believe in the importance of internationalisation for all our students and in the networking and the exchange of know-how and experience between lecturers and staff members.

The programme will consist of sessions, lectures or workshops of our international guests, which may be taught a number of times to different groups. Sessions will be open to our students, colleagues and interested representatives from the field. Furthermore, it would be interesting to give a country and/or institution presentation, focusing on general background, practical and cultural differences and on how your university is organised. Classes can be taught in English, French or German.

The theme of our 10h international days is connected to the European theme of 2014: “European Year for Reconciling Work and Family Life” with a focus on how sustainable well-being of people can be improved in the challenging times of today. What practices and policies exist on a good work life balance, on productivity, job security and on quality of life? Your presentation may have a connection with the European theme, but this is not compulsory.

Administrative or research staff of our partner institutes, who want to come under the staff training programme, will have a full programme on Tuesday 11 March and a suitable programme during the rest of the week, according to their wishes and needs. They are also invited to attend sessions in the different student groups. During the whole programme, there will be many networking possibilities with lecturers, administrative and research colleagues, representatives from companies and organisations we work with, and of course students!

You will find the full programme and application at our website. Please fill in the application form asap so that we can contact you for further information and changes in the programme. Accommodation suggestions are given on the website. Please book a hotel close to the campus where you will mostly teach. Please do not hesitate to contact us in case you need further information or documentation to be filled in for you to enable your participation. Accompanying persons are welcome and will be able to pay for the meals in which they participate.

Looking forward to hearing from you shortly and hoping to see you at Thomas More in March 2014!

With kind regards
Agnes Dillien
Head of International Office"
Of course, also with many greetings from our team
Internationalization Tourism and Leisure Management
Martine Addiers, Ann De Neve, Katrijn Krekels and Cecilia Gielen

Looking forward to meeting you during the international days!

International Week Stenden Meppel April 14 – 18 2014

School of Education April 14 - 18th 2014

Take the opportunity for teacher exchange on the basis of bilateral agreements!

We hereby invite you to come to Stenden Meppel and contribute to the program for this week!

The theme of this week is part of the programme of the International Class “Over the hills and far beyond borders.......” at the School of Education. During this week we want to provide the students of our International Class and our ordinary classes with international perspectives upon various disciplines.

Often our view on the world and other nations is colored by stereotypes and our own virtues and values. We read and talk a lot about ‘others’, but what is behind these words?

Key questions:
How to understand our own identity and the identity of our European neighbors. What is the real meaning of diversity in practice training situations in other Teacher training institutions.

Field of studies:
  • Creative training (arts & crafts, drama, music, integrated projects with music, crafts and arts)
  • Language and literature
  • Math education
  • Didactics
  • Education
  • ICT & new media
  • Environmental studies and education (Biology, Geography, History, Technology)
  • Cultural awareness in a multi cultural perspective
Our guest lecturers are, within the overall theme, free to choose their own themes, methods and means of communication, preferably subjects they are engaged in and eager to communicate to students and staff members. As our students are very practical minded we ask you to offer your contribution in a practical, experimental, innovative and theoretical atmosphere. Also as fundamental aspect the transfer from the subject and theme to classroom practice by using your own good practice examples.

The presentations must be held in English.

Our international week has the following aims:
  • You can count on the attention of almost 50 students. We can form groups in flexible compositions.
  • A rich environment to create an international atmosphere.
  • give students academic input from abroad
  • show students variations in the way you work at your institution
  • engage students and staff in discussions, workshops, theoretical and practical work, etc.
  • meet and greet with colleagues to exchange and discuss educational issues, to share knowledge, practices and experiences concerning teacher training aspects.
  • give colleagues from abroad an opportunity to present your favourite theme(s)
  • inspire students to study abroad
  • joint lunch every day
  • school visits (optional)
  • Internationalization is what we make of it together.
  • We are ambassadors of educational ideals and we have a role model as passionate teacher trainers.
Erasmus Staff Exchange
In order to make this event become a success, we are depending on you to apply for teacher/staff exchange grants from the Erasmus Teacher Exchange Program. We hope that we, through your contributions, can make this week a success!

Please send an e-mail before the 6th of December 2012 if you can join our International Week in April 2014 !

Please return the enclosed registration form – to inform us about your arrival, what your contribution will be and what equipment you need for your presentation no later than the 7th of February 2014 – by E-mail!

A detailed program will be distributed around the 21th of March. Rooms are booked in a nearby hotel, from Sunday 13th of April 2014

at the University of Economics
in Katowice, Poland

International Week is an opportunity to enjoy the benefits and take advantage of the international education and exchange world wide. The purpose of this event is to promote the idea of internationalisation as well as new media in our academic community. It is a great opportunity for students to improve their foreign language and intercultural skills in the context of course specific. Students will participate in lectures delivered by visiting professors from all over the world. The topics are related to the general ideas of Internet Communication Management and intended for students with a variety of specialisation from all the faculties. The international lecturers have the great possibility to teach students in another cultural environment as well as networking with colleagues from different countries and continents.

Inspired by St. Augustine’s quote: “The World is a book, and those who do not travel read only a page”we hope that our University will continue developing into an internationally oriented center of academic excellence.
